Kerala Brand will help gain global access for products from state

Minister for Industries, Law and Coir Shri P Rajeeve today unveiled the logo and web portal of the Kerala Brand as part of the ambitious project to tap into the increasing domestic and global demand for a wide range of high-quality products made in Kerala. The branding initiative will safeguard the interests of both the manufacturers and customers by assuring the quality and authenticity of the products based on well-laid protocols and certification, Shri Rajeeve said while launching the logo and web portal of the Kerala Brand at a function here. 

Significantly, the logo of Kerala Brand bears the motto ‘Nanma”, a Malayalam expression that signifies ‘Goodness’, the Minister said. Kerala Brand envisages to project the distinguishing features of products and services bearing Made-in-Kerala imprint to tap into the domestic and global market by highlighting their distinguishing features including quality, authenticity of raw materials and the ethical practices followed in production, the Minister said.

 

The entrepreneurs who wish to market their products under the Kerala Brand can apply through the dedicated web portal www.keralabrand.industry.kerala.gov.in set up by the Department of Industries and Commerce. Shri Antony Raju MLA presided over the function in which Shri Suman Billa, Principal Secretary Industries, Shri A P M Mohammed Haneesh, Principal Secretary, Industries and Shri S Harikishore, MD KSIDC and Director of Industries and Commerce were also present. Kerala is already a globally established brand in education and health, which compares well with the standards of the developed nations. Now it is time that high quality products and services from the state made a global impact by marketing them under the unique Kerala Brand, the Minister said. All major products from the state could be brought under the Kerala Brand step-by-step, ensuring their authenticity, quality and work place ethics. For this, clear-cult protocols will be laid down and digital facilities like hologram and QR Code leveraged to provide all details regarding each and every product, Shri Rajeeve said.

One segment that holds immense scope for Kerala is food products for which there is already an assured market.  Similarly, all coconut oil mills in the state will be certified, the Minister said.The branding exercise will help strategically position in the market a whole range of products, besides extending support to obtain high quality certification, facilitating e-marketing, extension of incentives under the Industrial Policy and expand market including export promotion. Helping these products reach out to Malayali diaspora spread across continents is a prime goal of the project. The Department of Industries and Commerce has laid down clear-cut protocols to allot the Kerala Brand based on strict evaluation of the products. KSIDC Executive Director Smt Annie Jula Thomas, Shri Santhosh Koshy Thomas, MD KINFRA, Board for Public Sector Transformation Executive Chairman Shri Ajith Kumar, State president of Kerala Small Scale Industries Association Shri A Nisaruddin, CII Kerala representative Shri Jijimon Chandran and FICCI Kerala representative Shri Savio Mathew were also present at the function.

Plantation Expo 2023 lays road map for future, experts deliberate on key themes

The four-day Plantation Expo, organised by the newly set up Plantation Directorate of Kerala Government, concluded on 19th Feb 2023 with experts sharing their perspectives on strengthening the vital sector and raising a global brand of Kerala’s plantation products, besides showcasing diverse produce from estates across the state. Starting on a high note with Industries Minister Shri P Rajeeve announcing that all incentives received by MSMEs in the state would be extended to the plantation sector as well, the event saw planters, subject experts, planners and academics engaging in deliberations on the way forward for the state’s storied plantation sector by tackling  the challenges ahead and exploring new channels of growth.

The expo at Sooryakanthi Exhibition ground, the first of its kind held in the state, drew  a steady stream of visitors from the day one. The expo displayed rich and diverse plantation products including a large variety of  tea, coffee, spices, cashew, spices, coir products and an assortment of value-added items including culinary delights.

Shri. Rajeeve set the context for the deliberations for the seminars at the event, noting that though nearly 42% of the country’s plantation is in Kerala  the sector is having a tough time which needs to be overcome soon, which is crucial for the economic development of Kerala and the wellbeing of the workers engaged by the sector. At seminars in subsequent days, the participants focused on live issues facing plantation sector in the country in general and that of Kerala in particular. The speakers, drawn from different parts of the country, made a strong case for strengthening the post-harvest infrastructure, value-addition of produce to tap domestic and global market, adopting sustainable farming practices to meet grim challenge posed by climate change, capitalising on big demand for wood by earmarking part of large estates for tree-planting and further strengthening the institutional support.

They lauded the Kerala Government on setting up a dedicated Plantation Directorate as part of  the Directorate of Industries and Commerce as this initiative would lead to focussed efforts enabling further growth of the sector, which has played a key role in socio-economic development of Kerala. The website of Plantation Directorate was also launched at the inaugural function of the event. According to Shri Suman Billa, Principal Secretary, Industries,   the Plantation Directorate will help significantly contribute to the revival of plantation sector, which is currently having a rough ride.  Shri A. P. M. Mohammed Hanish, Principal Secretary, Industries, stressed the importance of attracting more people to the plantation sector which is drastically affected by the challenges like climate changes..

The expo featured over 100 stalls showcasing the products from plantations registered in the state, cooperative societies in the plantation sector, traders, distributors and service and equipment providers. The expo also had information counters of the Central and State institutions in the sector.

Kerala Pavilion wins gold medal at India International Trade Fair

Kerala Pavilion won gold medal at the India International Trade Fair (IITF)organized in New Delhi. The 6000 square feet pavilion underlining the concept of 'Vocal for Local, Local to Global' won the award in the State & Union Territory Pavilion category.

The State Industry and Commerce Department was awarded the 'Best Theme Exhibitor' award. The Department of Industries set up a themed stall in the fair as a glimpse of Kerala's industrial growth.

India International Trade Fair- 2022

India International Trade Fair 2022 is organized from 14th to 27th November 2022 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. A themed stall of the Department of Industries has been set up in the fair as a glimpse of Kerala's industrial growth.

As part of this year's theme, Vocals for Local and Local for Global, Products from Kerala that have received geographical indication awards and are exported from Kerala are on display at the stalls. Apart from the theme stall, the Industries Department has also arranged 4 commercial stalls to sell the products of 8 micro, small and medium entrepreneurs from Kerala. Kerala's unique delicacies such as coconut oil, spices, various types of chips, cashew mango and Ilanir dishes and electronic products  are available at the commercial stalls.
