Planters Meet 2025

     Under the auspices of the Idukki District Industries Centre, a Planters' Meet was organized on Monday, 23rd June 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Kattappana Kgees Hill Town Hotel. The meeting was presided over by Hon. MLA Shri M.M. Mani, and the formal inauguration was done by the Hon. Minister for Law, Coir, and Industries, Shri P. Rajeev.

During the event, the Hon. Minister held discussions with plantation owners and representatives of various plantation sector organizations. He addressed the challenges faced by the sector and responded to grievances and concerns raised by farmers and plantation owners. The Minister also briefed the attendees about the revival projects currently being implemented by the government.

Several key issues were discussed during the meeting, including:

• Land disputes

• CHR (Cardamom Hill Reserve) related issues

• Insurance for plantation workers

• Concessions on electricity charges for agricultural use

• Compensation for crop loss

• Marketing strategies for cardamom

• Quality control and testing

• Promotion of organic farming

• Plantation tourism

• Construction of cardamom storage facilities

• Wildlife attacks

• GST-related concerns

• Cardamom re-pooling initiatives

The Hon. Minister provided suggestions and possible solutions to the issues raised, offering reassurance to the planter community regarding government support and intervention.
